E-cigarettes are hooking a new generation on nicotine – putting millions of kids at risk and threatening decades of progress in reducing youth tobacco use. It’s a nationwide crisis of youth addiction, fueled by thousands of kid-friendly flavors and massive doses of nicotine. And nicotine is not the only ingredient being vaped by youth.

The Surgeon General also found that using nicotine in adolescence can increase the risk of future addiction to other drugs. E-cigarettes deliver massive doses of nicotine, putting youth users at greater risk of addiction.

Join other Decatur parents to learn more about the local incidence of e-cigarette use and how we can address this as a community. Kenny Haney will discuss the health impacts of e-cigarettes and youth. Mr. Haney is a Community Health Advocate for Northside Hospital’s Cancer Institute. He is also a trained facilitator in the American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking program. As a part of the Built To Quit: Tobacco and Smoking Cessation program at Northside Hospital, he helps to spread education about smoking/tobacco/vaping cessation. Over the past four years, he has spoken to over 40,000 students, teachers, and parents about the vaping epidemic and presents information, answers, and guidance to help solve nicotine addiction/dependency.
