Talking with young people about marijuana and other easily accessible mood-altering products is challenging. Too many Decatur teens report not perceiving marijuana use as risky. With confusion about legal status, health consequences, and questions about increased potency and unknown additives, it is more important than ever for parents to be a dependable source of information. Join us as we discuss the most popular ways of consuming THC and its impact on a teen's social, emotional, and physical development. This will not be a presentation to debate the legal minefield adult marijuana use presents, but rather a time to look closely at what early onset marijuana use could mean for your child and what they need to know.
Another area of concern is the increased consumption of hemp-derived intoxicants by young people. These products are challenging because they are readily available online and can be purchased at local establishments. Names and specific compounds are constantly changing. This session will discuss the currently available products from Delta 8 to Delta 10 to THC 0 (and others). Additional over-the-counter products, such as Kratom, are also increasing in use by young people and will be discussed. Our kids can easily access many of these products online and in local stores, and they are being accessed by Decatur youth.
These sessions will be led by Charlotte Spell, M.S. Ms. Spell is a Certified Preventionist with over 25 years of experience in substance abuse treatment and prevention. She is currently the Executive Director of Let's Be Clear, Georgia, a statewide marijuana education prevention collaborative.
