The landscape of the drug culture is changing rapidly, putting our youth at risk of unwittingly consuming substances that are far more dangerous than they know – sometimes with tragic results. Please join us for a panel discussion with three experts on the types of drugs our youth can easily obtain, the means by which they obtain them and how you can intercede, and communicating directly with tweens and teens to raise their awareness about the new drug landscape. Topics the panel will discuss:
1) The types of drugs our youth are encountering (from OTC products to fentanyl)
2) Monitoring online activity (social media and dark web apps)
3) Hard and necessary conversations
4) Seeking professional help and support
5) Resources
6) Audience concerns
Our panel will address some of the following concerns:
What is currently happening with Decatur youth regarding illicit drug use?
How has the presence of fentanyl changed the illicit drug landscape?
Why has the mindset of "kids just being kids" become very dangerous?
How do I know if my child is accessing drugs online?
What are all these emojis, and what do they really mean?
How can I monitor social media for potentially dangerous behavior, and what tools are available?
How do I effectively set boundaries around media use for our family?
How do I respond when I see something that I am concerned about?
What about the tough questions about legal drugs and adult use?
When is it time to seek help, and where do I find it?
What other resources are out there?
